On May 27–28, 2025, the New Voices community met in Dortmund for a workshop at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality. Sessions included sound storytelling with Mario Simon, a case study on digital playwriting with Anne-Kathrin Schulz, and introductions to generative AI, motion capture, AR/VR, and world-building. Experts like Kristina Malyseva, Benedikt Mildenberger, and Vesela Stanoeva guided participants in exploring how technology is reshaping theatre today.

DAY 1 | Tuesday, May 27th 2025
10:00-11:00 Welcome and introduction with a short tour through the Academy (Speicherstraße 17, 44147 Dortmund)
11:00-13:00 Introduction into sound editing and storytelling through soundscapes with a little playful exercise for the playwrights with Mario Simon
13:00-14:00 Lunch break
14:00-15:30 Dramaturg and playwright Anne-Kathrin Schulz & creative technologist Mario Simon talk about a specific production from Schauspiel Dortmund and their experience how it was to write for a digital production
15:30-16:00 Coffee break

10:00-12:00 Workshop on AI and prompt engineering with Kristina Malyseva (a dramaturg and digital expert on AI who spends a one-month research residency at the Academy in May for her next project)

12:30-13:30 From the real world to the virtual world: showing you possibilities in worldbuilding and working with your ideas/suggestions, an interactive session with Vesela Stanoeva
13:30-14:30 Lunch break
14:30-15:30 Capturing movement and bodies – introduction into motion capture possibilities with Vesela Stanoeva and Tim Pauli
15:30-16:00 Coffee break
16:00-17:30 Experiencing some best practice examples in VR and AR and a discussion about it afterwards
17:30-18:00 Feedback round about the two days and saying goodbye
