Delving into vulnerabilities. Autobiographic playwriting.
How can we reflect on our biographies from a social and political perspective so that what is profoundly personal becomes socially relevant? How can we transcend the autobiographical references, involving a political perspective?
The workshop is dedicated to young, emerging playwrights – students and alumni of the National University of Drama and Cinematography in Bucharest – and is focused on exploring various formats of writing centered on autobiographies. The exercises that will be devised will offer possibilities of negociating between autobiographic elements and fictional interventions.
The workshop will explore theoretical aspects of autobiographical performances, presenting the work of local playwrights who developed techniques of delving into personal, intimate stories.
The playwrights will closely collaborate with actors of Teatrul Odeon and will write one monologue inspired by the actors’ personal stories. Each playwright will document the actor’s story and will create a short monologue in connection to the respective story, exploring how a personal aspect can become theatrically significant.
The result: reading of the texts and publishing the text on an online platform, very popular in Romania.
