The myth of the labyrinth and the Minotaur has inspired artists across centuries and cultures. From Euripides and Monteverdi to Borges and Sarah Kane, countless rewritings have explored its themes. This workshop, directed by Magdalena Barile for dramaturgy students at the Civica Scuola Paolo Grassi in Milan, delves into the nature of myths, their persistence, and their regenerative power. Through shared readings, listening sessions, and viewings of various interpretations of the labyrinth myth, students will reflect on its enduring relevance. Following this study phase, each participant will be guided to create their own personal rewriting of the myth, attuned to their time and artistic sensibility.

Curated by Magdalena Barile in collaboration with Austrian playwright Bernhard Studlar, the workshop will culminate in an exchange where participants meet their peers in Vienna from 5 to 8 December 2024.
Additionally, Studlar and his students will join Barile’s workshop from 8 to 10 January 2025 for an enriching artistic and cultural exchange.
