The four seasons are a rich source of inspiration and are full of imagery. It quickly reminds us of typical scenes of childhood, storybook images, idealized pictures… It is interesting to compare the way seasons are lived in different regions or countries. Seasons suggest rituals, memories and intimate feelings that are universally shared.
But our relationship with the seasons is also very Western-centric. The idea that it is cold in winter and hot in summer comes from a worldview inherent to the countries of the Northern Hemisphere, the “rich countries,” which have long dominated our imaginations. This is an entire model of thinking that has been exported to all countries. Today, in light of the ecological emergency, this model must be questioned. Tourism is just one example to illustrate our seasonal habits deeply influenced by the capitalist logic that has become predominant. Thinking about the seasons is not only about observing climate change from a single geographic point. It is also about challenging, in a Copernican way, our individual relationship with the world from broader and multiple perspectives.
This workshop will include memories and present observation. At a rate of four sessions of five days, matching with the season cycle of one year, this creative writing will focus on the way environment has an impact on our daily life and deepest recollections.
