Most contemporary plays are based on a rigorous documentation of the subjects they deal with, the playwright relying in his working process on techniques specific to journalism. The methods may vary. Thus, the playwright may use press articles for his/her documentation, especially when writing about topics he/she is unfamiliar with, or he/she may use specific journalistic tools for his/her research. Very often, plays are inspired by magazine and newsaper articles.
During the workshop, we will discuss about our own research techniques. The participants will chose a real event and fictionalise it, gather press materials or interview people in order to find out as much as possible about the topic they want to address.
Together, we will select the most relevant information and turn it into a play. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have at least a good starting point for a new play.
